PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pulse generator which generates optical pulse with less noise. SOLUTION: An optical amplification medium 14 is excited by the excitation light emitted from an excitation light source 10, and the optical amplification medium 14 emits natural emission light. One AO switch 19 provided in an optical loop is turned on at a specified cycle so that such optical pulse is generated as travels along the optical loop to increase its intensity stepwise. The other AO switch 20 provided in the optical loop is turned on with specified timing shorter than the time when the light travels once in the optical loop so that independent optical pulse is generated.
