PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document management system and a document managing method capable of automatically relating a related document as a user's intention to individual documents. SOLUTION: The document managing device capable of relating one document to the other document and managing them, is provided with an all sentence retrieving part 7 to retrieve all sentences of a document to be registered or a document being referred to and to extract a document name described in the vicinity of a word when the document is registered or referred to, a document extracting part 8 to extract the document including a part of the character strings of the document name extracted by the all sentence retrieving part 7 in its document name from the registered documents and a document managing part 9 to relate the document extracted by the document extracting part 8 to the document to be registered or the document being referred as the related document.
