PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of preventing reflect-in without dropping the brightness. SOLUTION: An organic EL element 200 is structured so that a transparent positive electrode 2 consisting of ITO, etc., a light emission layer 3 consisting of organic phosphor, etc., and a negative electrode 5 made of metal are laminated one over another on one surface 1a of a transparent glass board 1, whereby the light of the light emission layer 3 is taken out from the other surface 1b of the board 1, and between the negative electrode 5 and light emission layer 3, a photo-absorptive layer 4 is provided which is made of an organic substance such as copper phthalocyanine having a conduction band minimum level of -2.7 eV or less and absorbs visible rays of light.
