PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator and a method for its production which do not include a process to fix a chassis inclined at a specified angle to process the bottom face into an inclined face, however, by which the optical axis of the isolator makes a specified angle from the Faraday rotator or a pair of polarizers. SOLUTION: This optical isolator includes a pair of polarizers 3, 5, a Faraday rotator 4 disposed between the pair of polarizers 3, 5, and a magnet 9 to magnetize the Faraday rotator 4 all housed in a chassis. The Faraday rotator 4 and the pair of polarizers 5, 3 are held at a finite angle to the axis of the chassis 1 and a lid 2. The polarizers 3, 5 are fixed by soldering or the like to the chassis 1 and the lid 2, respectively, with spacers 7, 8 each having a wedge-like cross section in the thickness direction with a specified angle.
