PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame arrestor which is capable of retracting. SOLUTION: A flame arrestor 2 has a tubular housing 4 to be connected to a pipeline, and a flame arrestor element 8 moved between a first flame preventive position inside the tubular housing 4 and a second flame preventive position retracted from the tubular housing 4. A means is arranged for moving the flame arrestor element 8 from the first position to the second retracted position, when pressure and vacuum degree inside the tubular housing 4 show prescribed value or less.
