PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cellulose-containing complex capable of improving molding processability, excellent in mechanical strength or the like and useful for producing a formed article capable of expressing the function of biodegradability or the like by compounding cellulose with a specific compound. SOLUTION: The complex contains cellulose and a compound of formula I [R is a (substituted) alkylene or a (substituted) arylene; G is a monosaccharide residue or an oligo residue; n is 1-5,000] (e.g. a compound of formula II). The ratio of a compound of formula I in a cellulose-containing complex is preferably about 10-40 wt.%. The cellulose can be a bacterial cellulose. The complex is obtained by drying a solution prepared by homogeneously mixing cellulose with a compound of formula I. The compound of formula I is obtained by (i) preparing a saccharide residue (e.g. cellobiose) expressed by G in formula I by decomposing cellulose of paper and (ii) binding the saccharide residue to a dicarboxylic acid which contains the part expressed by R in formula I.
