摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make increasable the dynamic range and to make significantly decreasable its temp. dependence by controlling the angle between the polarizing plane of incident light and the direction of a magnetic field applied to a specified range. SOLUTION: The angle x deg. between the polarizing plane of monochromatic light passing through a polarizer to enter a garnet single crystal or one polarizing plane of light having two polarizing planes perpendicular to each other, and the direction of a magnetic field perpendicular to the optical axis and applied on the garnet single crystal, and the angle y deg. between the polarizer and the analyzer are determined for the rotation angle z deg. of the polarizing plane caused when the light passes a Faraday rotation angle converter while a magnetic field is applied, is represented by z=y-90 or z=y+90 so as to satisfy [(-z/2)+90×n]-12<=x<=[(-z/2)+90×n]+12, wherein n is 0, 1, 2, or 3. More preferably, the angle x deg. is controlled to satisfy [(-z/2)+90×n]-4<=x<=[(-z/2)+90×n]+4, wherein n is one of 0, 1, 2 and 3.</p>
