PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the giving of dazzle to oncoming cars and pedestrians by reducing light quantity of a headlight turned on when bringing a vehicle to a temporary stop at an intersection and the like. SOLUTION: This headlight switching device 1 turns off a dipped headlight 11 and dimmingly turns on a travel light 12, when a vehicle is detected at a stop while traveling with the dipped headlight 11 turned on, and is rest to an initial condition when starting to travel. Even when a discharge lamp having extreme difficult in dimming control and being so unstable as to be unexpectedly put out in dimming is used as a light source of the dipped headlight 11 the headlight switching device 1 is thereby prevented from giving dazzle to oncoming cars and the like by substituting a filament of a tungsten halogen lamp 12a as the light source of a travel light 12 for lighting in bringing the vehicle to a stop.
