PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a counter weight for elevator capable of reducing the period in which a sub weight can be attached without remaking a long through bolt in the case where the height of the sub weight is longer than the length of the through bolt. SOLUTION: This counter weight has frames 1, main weights 2, through bolts 3, and a sub weight provided on the main weights 2. The sub weight includes a base weight 12 having first holes 10 through which the through bolts 3 can be inserted and bolt holes 11 formed separately from the first holes 10, an auxiliary weight 14 disposed on the base weight 12, having insertion holes 13 communicating with the bolt holes 11 of the base weight 12, and auxiliary bolts 15 inserted through the insertion holes 13 of the auxiliary weight 14 and screwed into the bolt holes 11 of the base weight 12.
