摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal device that dose not required a rubbing, can prevent intrusion of dust and production of rubbing lines or the like, and can obtain a display with a wide viewing angle by forming an insulating material on the surface of a pixel electrode in such a manner that the thickness of the insulating material is largest near the center and gradually decrease toward the periphery. SOLUTION: The insulating material is formed directly or indirectly on a pixel electrode 102 by printing or dipping in such a manner that the thickness of the insulating material is largest near the electrode center and it gradually decrease toward the periphery. Namely, the insulating material or its soln. is applied by spin coating, printing, dipping or other methods on a pixel electrode 102 which is divided into minute regions. As for the insulating material, a resin is the most general material and can be easily used, however, an inorg. material dissolved in a solvent can be used. The insulating film 101 applied has a meniscus like a lens due to the surface tension on the pixel, and the film is subjected to heat treatment or the like to remove the solvent. Thus, a film having distribution of the film thickness that the center is thickest and the periphery is thinner is formed. The coating process of the insulating film 101 is preferably repeated many times to allow the film thickness distribution to be wider.
