PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject optical resin that is useful for producing optical molding products, for example, lens or the like having excellent non-optical birefringence, heat resistance, no stria and the like by using a specific (meth) acrylic ester, a specific maleimide, a specific fatty acid and the like. SOLUTION: A monomer mixture of (A) 5-40 wt.% of (meth)acrylic ester bearing a 5-22C salicylic hydrocarbon in the ester moiety, (B) 50-80 wt.%. of methyl methacrylate, (C) 5-40 wt.% of an Nsubstituted maleimide, (D) 0-30 wt.% of benzyl methacrylate, (E) 0-10 wt.% of monomer copolymerizable with the components A through D, (F) 0.1-2.0 wt.% of a compound of the formula (R1 is a 5-30C aliphatic hydrocarbon) and (G) 0.05-2.0 wt.%; of a compound of the formula: R2COOH (R2 is a 5-30C aliphatic hydrocarbon) is copolymerized in such a monomer formulation that the components F and G are adjusted so that the absolute value of the oriented optical birefringence may become <1×10-6 on the basis of the whole amount of the monomer mixture of the components A through E in the resultant resin.
