PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polycarbonate resin having a molecular weight distribution close to a monodispersed state and generating extremely little volatile material derived from oligomer in hot forming. SOLUTION: The objective polycarbonate resin is produced by reacting a carbonate raw material with a dihydroxy compound and has an (Mw/Mn) ratio of <=2.2 [Mw is the weight-average molecular weight in terms of polystyrene and measured by gel-permeation chromatography and Mn is the number-average molecular weight] and an (Mv/Mn') ratio of <=1.40 [Mv is viscosity-average molecular weight calculated by the formulasηsp/C=[η]×(1+0.28ηsp) and [η]=1.23×10-4×Mv0.83 (in the formulas,ηsp is the specific viscosity measured on a methylene chloride solution of polycarbonate at 20 deg.C and C is the concentration of the methylene chloride solution. The concentration of polycarbonate resin in the methylene chloride solution is 0.6 g/dL) and Mn' is a number- average molecular weight calculated from the number of terminal groups of the molecule].
