PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control an operation of a digital oscilloscope in response to an input signal characteristic. SOLUTION: A pair of signal forms having respectively discriminatable peculiar signal characteristics is determined, at least one prescribed setting for an oscilloscope suitable to prepare a view suitable to the respective signal forms is determined, plural measurements are carried out relating to an input signal to find one or more of measurement features, and the features are compared with the peculiar signal characteristics to classify the input signal into one of the signal forms, so as to control the digital oscilloscope in response to the signal form, by the prescribed setting.
