PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for predicting gene expression efficiency by determining the total number of each base species in both end sequences of many genes of a eukaryotic cell species, calculating a relative adaptation value of each base, followed by using an average value determined from the value of both ends of the objective gene. SOLUTION: This is a method for predicting the expression efficiency of gene (a) of a eukaryotic species (A) by determining the total number (ij) value (i=-n, -n+1,..., -6, -5, -4, -3, -2, +4, +6; j=A, C, G, U/T) of each A, C, G and U/T of 5'-side (n) bases (n>=6) and 3'-side 3 bases of 5'-most adjacent AUG or ATG sequence from a known sequence of each mRNA or cDNA of 20 or more expression genes of species (A), extracting (wij) values corresponding to respective 5'-side (n) bases and 3'-side 3 bases of 5'-most adjacent ATG sequence of gene (a) from these (ij) values to calculate their geometric mean value (zij), followed by using the (zij) value as a predicted value of the expression efficiency of gene (a).
