An installation for welding or cutting of metals or metal alloys with a laser beam (6) comprises at least:- a) a laser beam generator (20) to produce at least one laser beam (6); b) a source of assisting gas (21); c) an optical path system (25, 8') carrying the laser beam (6) from the generator (20) to a distribution head (5) that allows the passage of the laser beam and the assisting gas flow; and d) a means for concentrating (8) the assisting gas flow around the laser beam (6), this concentration device (8) being provided inside or in the proximity of the distribution head (5).
