A hydrogenation process in which a hydrocarbon-containing fluid containing a highly unsaturated hydrocarbon such as a diolefin and/or an alkyne is contacted, in the presence of hydrogen and a sulfur impurity such as a sulfur compound, with a catalyst composition containing palladium and titanium dioxide in a hydrogenation zone under a condition effective to convert the highly unsaturated hydrocarbon to a less unsaturated hydrocarbon.
