The invention relates to a method of introducing a gaseous reducing agent of a nitrogen oxide into a gas mixture (1) and to a device (100) for carrying out said method. According to the invention, thermal energy is supplied to a body (6) that consists of the starting material of the reducing agent, whereby said reducing agent is formed. The starting material used is urea. The reducing agent formed is ammonia. The inventive method is especially used for reducing nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gases (2) of internal combustion engines.
