The engraving machine has several engraving carriages movable parallel to the axis of one or more printing cylinders to be engraved. A first engraving carriage (2) is coupled to a machine advance feed device and a second such carriage (4) is coupled by connecting component (16) at a distance with the first carriage. A motor (18) is provided, which is coupled with the connecting component. The distance (X) between the two carriages engraving is variable by the drive of the motor, and this variation occurs continuously. The connecting component is a threaded spindle rotatable by the motor. One of the engraving carriages supports the motor and the other an engagement component (20), which engages the thread of the threaded spindle.
