The invention relates to a method for the production of a metal strip on a continuous treatment line comprising a stripping station which is coupled with a cold rolling section. According to the invention, in order to respond to a change in operation requirements such as a change of reel, the rolling speed is varied within an extremely wide range (up to less than 1m/mn) and cold rolling is carried out between working rolls having a reduced diameter, whereby the rolling force which is to be applied remains compatible with the range in which the rolling speed is varied and it is possible to adjust the thickness of the product according to the characteristics thereof.
