In a process to manufacture laminate products or to apply a laminated layer onto a chipboard, the covering web is first held in a roll together with a second protective covering layer which is removed prior to insertion of the web into the press. When the first roll (1) is exhausted, the trailing edge is joined by a small overlap or gap of the leading edge from the second roll. The leading edge of the protective covering web on the second roll is joined to the trailing edge on the first roll for seamless discharge.
