The present invention relates to an improved system for sewage separation. The system includes a first chamber (12) for receiving sewage containing water, oleaginous materials, and solids, in which at least a portion of the solids can settle to the the bottom of the chamber (12). A second chamber (14), in flow communication with the first chamber (12), receives sewage water from the first chamber (12) and allows at least one portion of any oleaginous materials therein to rise to the top of the water. A discharge (24) passes sewage water from the second chamber (14) into a transport line that leads a portion to a sewage treatment plant. A grinder pump (30) grinds at least a portion of the solids that descend toward the bottom of the first chamber (12) a and conduit (32) conducts the resulting slurry of ground solids from the first chamber (12) to the discharge line (24). A pressure relief line (40) runs from the conduit (32), allowing head pressure to be released into the first chamber (12). |
