Plant for the production of fuel briquettes comprises a screw conveyer 2 fed with carbonaceous raw material from a hopper 1, a rotary kiln 3 having metal lifters 4 and enclosed by a refractory housing 38 defining a combustion chamber (40) (Fig. 3 (not shown), containing a gas or oil burner (41), and a discharge chamber 5 incorporating a screw conveyer 6 feeding a cyclone separator 9 via a conduit 7 connected with a blower 8. Hot material at 370-500‹ C. is fed by a screw 10 from separator 9 to a briquetting machine 12 and thence by an endless conveyer 14 and screen 15 to mixing bins (17) and (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), where the briquettes are cooled by contact with powdered raw material. The first bin (17) is supplied with material of selected grain size and the second (22) with coarser material which is then screened, crushed and fed to bin (17). Gas from kiln 3 passes through conduits 29 and 30 for use as carrier gas by the blower 8 and from cyclone 9 passes by conduit 31 to a condenser. Part of this gas may be recirculated through conduit 32. Tar vapour as a binder may be introduced into conduit 30, conduit 7 or cyclone 9. Sized raw material, preheated to 200‹ C., passes from the foot of bin (17) to charging hopper 1. |
