PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device and a recording control method that can perform accurate recording without inviting an increase in production cost and the size of the device. SOLUTION: Recording is executed by moving a carriage after determining a position for starting recording for every record of one scanning of a recording head to a recording medium on the basis of input record data and determining whether the determined recording start position is within a prescribed range, setting the scanning start position of the recording head by a carriage at a position separated by the prescribed first distance from a recordable range on the recording medium in the case when it is determined that the determined recording start position is within a specified range, and setting the scanning start position of the recording head by the carriage at a position separated by the prescribed second distance from the recording start position, in the case when it is determined that the recording start position is outside the prescribed range, and moving the carriage carrying the recording head to the set position.
