PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process monitoring system and method, by which a linkage processing when a monitoring process abnormality is ended is sorted with an optional process with a designated name as a monitoring object and a process monitoring start/end period is flexibly set. SOLUTION: A monitoring process means 1 receives an announcement from a process monitoring start part 21, reads a monitoring process definition file 3 and obtains the process name of the process to be monitored. Process ID is retrieved from the process management table 41 of an operating system 4 based on the process name and a monitoring object process group 5 is set to be detected when the abnormality is ended. When the process abnormality end is detected, the end code is obtained, the monitoring process definition file 3 is retrieved with the process name and the end code as a key and the corresponding linkage processing is retrieved and executed. The announcement from a process monitoring end part 22 is received to stop process monitoring.
