PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric resonator with a small volume whose pass bandwidth can be made broad, that is easily and stably electrically connected and fixed to a board or the like. SOLUTION: In this piezoelectric resonator, a couple of external electrodes 19, to which internal electrode layers 12 are alternately connected, is provided to a resonator main body 10 that consists of an active section 15 formed by alternately laminating piezoelectric layers 11 and the internal layers 12 and that consists of an inactive section 17 provided to both side faces of the active section 15 in the lengthwise direction. In this case, a ratio (L2/L1) of a length L2 of the active section 15 to a length L1 of the resonator main body 10 is set to 0.5-0.9, and the piezoelectric resonator is excited in the fundamental vibration in a longitudinal elongation vibration mode.
