PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the variable-focal-length optical device which can be made small-sized. SOLUTION: A substrate 1 is a flat plate type substrate which is made of stainless steel and has a specular surface 2 as one surface, and serves as an electrode of a piezoelectric body 3. A control part 6 is a controller including a power source which applies a specific voltage between the electrode 2 and an electrode 5. The piezoelectric body 3 when applied with a specific voltage deforms, for example, as shown by arrows to distort the substrate 1 into a concave mirror. Its focal length is variable with the applied voltage. The substrate 1 itself, therefore, has a specular surface, so the control part including the power source is only provided to obtain the optical device with variable focal length.
