PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder excellent in the point of workability while enabling both up separating paper feed of documents and down separating paper feed of documents by a simple mechanism and control. SOLUTION: An upper and a lower pickup roller 203A, 203B are arranged opposite to each other while interposing a document mounted on a document mounting stand 201. While pressing the document downward by the upper pickup roller 203A, the lower pickup roller 203B is normally rotated interlocking with down separating action of a document separating means at down separating action time. On the other hand, the upper pickup roller 203A is normally rotated interlocking with up separating action of the document separating means at up separating action time.
