PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a workpiece support device which can realize high accuracy work by suppressing a clamp distortion of a workpiece within a permissible range. SOLUTION: This support device comprises a support member 21 abutting to a workpiece W to support it, drive means 13, 15, 16, 19, 20 advancing/ retracting the support member 21 in a direction orthogonal relating to a support surface 21a of the support member 21, position detection means 23, 31 detecting a supported surface position of the workpiece W transfer fed to a mounting position, and a position control means 32 driving controlling the drive means 13 based on a position data of the detected supported surface to advance/retract the support member 21 so as to conform a position of the support surface 21a of the support member 21 to the supported surface position of the workpiece W. Since the position of the support surface 21a of the support member 21 is conformed to the supported surface position of the workpiece W, a clamp distortion can be suppressed.
