PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain an oscillating member from being tilted by belt load by applying offset load to an oscillating arm by a spring in an auto-tensioner having a spring for energizing the oscillating arm in a designated oscillating direction. SOLUTION: To restrain an oscillating arm 4 from being tilted by belt load F applied to a pulley 2, the energizing force of a torsion spring 9 to the oscillating arm 4 is made different between one side and the other side with the central axis of the oscillating arm 4 interposed between them. That is, when the belt load F is applied from the upper part of the pulley 2 toward the lower side, the thickness of a flange part 4b clamped between the torsion spring 9 of the oscillating arm 4 and a friction member 11 is gradually increased from the upper part side to the lower part side, so that the energizing force of the torsion spring 9 is larger on the lower part side than that on the upper part side. By this arrangement, the oscillating arm 4 is restrained from being titled due to the belt load F by the offset load of the torsion spring 9, thereby restraining generation of offset load on the inner peripheral side and the outer peripheral side of the friction surface of the friction member 11.
