PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent adverse effects of a discharge product stuck and accumulated on a contact electrifying member on a photoreceptor and to prevent image defects, such as image run or image shading in repeated electronic photographs by including hydrotalcite compounds expressed by a specific formula in the surface layer of the electrifying member. SOLUTION: The surface layer of a contact electrifying member contains hydrotalcite compounds represented by Mg(1-X)AlX(OH)2(CO3)(X/2).mH2O, where (x) is a number satisfying the condition 0<x<=0.5, and (m) is a positive number. These hydrotalcite compounds can be included in the surface layer of the contact electrifying member by dissolution, decomposition or kneading. Adverse effects of discharge product on a photoreceptor are suppressed, and image defects such as image run or image shading in repeated electronic photographs can be prevented.
