PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron gun for color cathode-ray tube having improved focus characteristic by lowering the cross sectional distortion of the electron beam passing through an electron lens while using a number as small as possible of noncircular through holes, and forming a quadrupole lens having an appropriate lens magnification. SOLUTION: An electron gun has a first electrode 21, to which the static voltage is applied and which is formed with three vertically long electron beam through holes, a second electrode 22 provided in one side of the first electrode 21 and formed with each circular electron beam through hole 22R, 22G, 22B, and a third electrode 23, which is positioned at the other side of the first electrode 21 and formed with each horizontally long electron beam through hole 23R, 23G, 23B and to which the dynamic focus voltage VD1 equal to the second electrode 22 is applied. With this structure, the electron beam through holes can be formed into a horizontally long shape, a vertically long shape or a circular shape so as to reduce the dynamic focus voltage.
