PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of side pressure and galling between a valve bridge and an intake valve (or an exhaust valve), to promote rotation of an abutting member and to obtain a high local wear prevention effect. SOLUTION: In this valve system for an engine for simultaneously pushing down a plurality of intake valves 11 or exhaust valves by a rocker arm 5 via a valve bridge 10, an abutting member 9 which is abutted on the rocker arm 5 is freely rotatably provided on a top face part of the valve bridge 10, a pressing center C of the rocker arm 5 and a center O11 of each intake valve 11 or exhaust valve are located on the same plane P and a rotation center O of the abutting member 9 is offset from the plane P. Couple of force F1, F2 does not work on the whole of the valve bridge 10 including the abutting member 9, and generation of side pressure and generation of galling between the valve bridge 10 and intake/exhaust valve 11 are prevented. Because the pressing center C of the rocker arm 5 is offset from the rotation center O of the abutting member 9, rotation of the abutting member 9 is promoted and a high local wear prevention effect is obtained.
