PURPOSE:To ensure that a large amount of fine iron oxide is firmly carried by a ceramic or metal monolith. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic or metal monolith carrier is soaked in an aqueous mixed solution containing ferrous and ferric salt, and impregnated with the aqueous mixed solution containing ferrous and ferric salts. Next, the monolith carrier is allowed to have magnetite particles deposited and carried by soaking the monolith carrier impregnated with the aqueous mixed solution containing ferrous and ferric salts in an aqueous alkali hydroxide solution or an aqueous alkali carbonate solution. Alternately, the monolith carrier carrying deposited magnetite particles is thermally processed, if necessary. |
