PURPOSE:To allow a large amount of fine iron oxide to be carried firmly by a ceramic or metal monolith carrier by treating it in an aqueous ferrous salt solution. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic or metal monolith carrier is soaked in an aqueous ferrous salt solution and then is impregnated with the solution. Next, the monolith carrier impregnated with the aqueous ferrous salt solution is soaked in an aqueous alkali hydroxide or an aqueous alkali carbonate solution, and a gas containing oxygen is aerated to allow the monolith carrier to carry a deposited ferric oxide particle containing water. After that, the carrier where the ferric oxide particle containing water is carried is water-washed and dried, then is soaked in an aqueous solution containing a ferrous hydroxide. Thus, the monolith carrier is allowed to carry a deposited magnetite particle. Finally, this monolith carrier is water-washed and dried, then is thermally treated at 200 to 700 deg.C. |
