PURPOSE: A payment method on the Internet using an automatic response system(ARS), is provided a use number is assigned to a purchaser through telephony in order to pay for contents, online game and digital commodities. CONSTITUTION: A user connects to a contents providing site on the Internet via a client which is a user's data terminal. Contents information provided in the contents providing site is requested by the user. A charging number corresponding to the requested contents information is generated at random and assigned to the user, and an input of a use number corresponding to the charging number is requested. The user telephones to an automatic response system(ARS) of an ARS payment system, and inputs the assigned charging number according to a message of the ARS. The ARS generates and assigns a use number corresponding to the inputted charging number. The assigned use number is inputted in the contents providing site. Whether the inputted use number is corresponding to the charging number is confirmed. Contents information corresponding to the charging number is provided to the user in the contents providing site.
