A skin protection method, for preventing cellular aging, involves use of: (i) heat shock proteins (I) isolated from algae; or (ii) molecules (II) isolated from algae which induce constitutive and/or inductive heat shock proteins in the skin cells. Independent claims are included for: (a) a pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition for preventing cellular aging of the skin, containing (I) or (II) as active agent; and (b) the preparation of such compositions, by using an algal extract containing (I) (constitutive and/or inductive) or (II).
