A method for promoting plant growth, comprising increasing the primary growth of soil microflora around the plant roots by introducing oil-in-water type wetting agents (I) and at least partially water-soluble silicon compounds (II) which are utilizable by the plants are simultaneously or subsequently introduced, is new.
