PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trouble diagnosing function capable of easily adjusting the cause of abnormality in electric system. SOLUTION: This position detector comprises a position sensor 2 which has primary windings 22, 23 and a secondary winding 24 and generates a secondary winding voltage having phase difference corresponding to a rod position of an injection molding machine to a primary winding voltage, a phase difference detecting part 3 detecting phase difference on the basis of the primary winding voltage and the secondary winding voltage, a position calculating part 43 calculating a rod position on the basis of phase difference detected with the phase difference detecting part 3, voltage dividing resistors 52, 53 which are interposed and connected with voltage supply lines 54, 55 to the primary windings 22, 23, and divide a supplied voltage between the voltage supply lines 54, 55 and the primary windings 22, 23, a potential detecting part 9 detecting the potential of the voltage supply lines 54, 55 between the voltage dividing resistors 52, 53 and the primary windings 22, 23, and an abnormality diagnosing part 45 diagnosing abnormality of electric system of the position sensor 2 on the basis of the detected potential of the potential detecting part 9.
