PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the required sufficient amount by making a member of a low work function conductive, using the member of the low work function as an emitter, and forming it into a solid shape. SOLUTION: In the cold cathode fluorescent lamp, a discharge electrode 3 is composed of an electrode body 3b formed into an approximately pipe shape, and an emitter 3c installed in the inside diameter of the electrode body 3 and, formed of a single conductive member into a cubic shape. The emitter 3c is positioned on the end on the discharge side and also behind the electrode body 3b. The emitter 3c is boride of a rare earth element such as lanthanum, yttrium, gadolinium, cerium, or the like.
