The unit (RU) maintains a braking force until the drive force for starting a vehicle has risen to a defined value so that the braking force continues to act on the vehicle after releasing the brake pedal (BP), whereby the braking force retention unit contains a mechanism (CU,LSV) for reducing the braking force according to the rising drive force.
