PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely demodulate, without increasing the load on the device, an FSK modulated signal sent according to a transmission protocol which makes no training check. SOLUTION: The signal is received by a cable equalizer 13 which does not perform adapting operation and subjected to analog to digital conversion and a DSP(digital signal processor) 15 incorporated in a FAX device performs a digital signal equalizing process. The signal value is extremely increased by multiplication by a coefficient outputted from a coefficient memory 17 and then clamped by a trapezoidal clamp processing part 21. Consequently, the signal amplitude is made forcibly uniform. Then the signal is multiplied by a coefficient outputted from a coefficient memory 18 to put the signal value back to a desirable level and higher harmonic noise is removed by a low-pass filter 22.
