PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily focus a camera on an object by superimposing a preliminarily stored image pickup composition and a focus position decided about the composition on a surrounding subject image to display them and performing focus control of the image at the focus position. SOLUTION: A user operates a cursor shifting key and designates a cursor position to bring a prescribed position in a displayed focus position into focus. A controlling part checks a state signal from an operating part, and when the cursor shifting key is operated, the controlling part further examines the state signal from the operating part. Then, it decides whether the cursor shifting key is operated to the left or to the right. When the cursor shifting key is operated to the right, the first right focus position 87 is displayed, and when it is operated to the left, the first left focus position 84 is displayed. Thus, a user can visually decide the propriety of a focus position and can perform a cursor operation again when it is not a desired position.
