PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display device capable of satisfactorily performing contour correction without deteriorating an image. SOLUTION: This video display device is provided with a storage circuit 102 storing a video signal for a prescribed period a contour detection circuit 103 that calculates the difference between the latest video signals from each other which are successively inputted and stored in the circuit 102 and detects a contour to be made steep in the video signals, on the basis of the results and outputs a control signal and a selection output circuit 104, which selects and outputs video signal data stored in the circuit 102. A signal, whose contour is made steeper than that of an inputted signal, can be obtained without undershoots nor overshoots, in such a manner that the circuit 103 detects the contour of an inputted image signal and the circuit 104 selects and outputs the data of the input signal stored in the circuit 102 on the basis of the detection results.
