PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a video desk to executes a video adjusting process or reproduced videos with software by detecting whether or not the video signals recorded on a rental video tape correspond to wide videos and discriminating the video tape as the rental video tape when the video signals correspond the wide videos. SOLUTION: A wide signal is extracted from the digital data superimposed upon as idle scanning line and an aperture control circuit 43 processed video signals with software by controlling frequency characteristics depending upon the presence/absence of the wide signal. Therefore, stable control can be realized, because the frequency characteristics are controlled based on the wide signal of the digital data. In addition, since the aperture control circuit 43 can process the video signals with software in stages in a level and a user can select the desired level out of the plurality of levels, the user can watch and listen to videos with its favorite good picture quality.
