PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a resolution without damaging the image quality of an original image. SOLUTION: When data memorized in a scan conversion memory 2 is data on an odd-numbered field, a read address generation circuit 4c obtains an address in the vertical direction after enlargement based on a magnification in the vertical direction, and reads out pixel data on the nearest line thereto from the memory 2. In the case of data on an even-numbered field, the circuit 4c obtains an address obtained by subtracting 0.5 from the address in the vertical direction after enlargement, and reads out pixel data on the nearest line thereto from the memory 2. An interpolation operation circuit 3 executes a linear interpolation operation based on the pixel data read out from the memory 2 and pixel data on the preceding line read out previously, and obtains pixel data after enlargement.
