The antenna device has an antenna element with an electrically conductive antenna surface (AF) positioned adjacent the edge of the front windscreen (FF) and coupled via a cable to one terminal of a receiver, the windscreen edge acting as the earth surface for the HF signals. The antenna device may detect an electromagnetic field (EM) provided by a central locking transmitter (FS) on the outside of the automobile (KF).
