PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the characteristics and efficiency of a linear motor without increasing the size of the motor, by arranging a plurality of permanent magnets around the motor by uniting the magnets by utilizing the recessed and projecting fitting sections of the magnets. SOLUTION: Each of the arcuate permanent magnets 12 constituting the mover 13 of a linear motor has recessed and projecting fitting sections 12a and 12b, and the magnets 12 are united in one cylindrical body by fitting the projecting fitting sections 12b in the recessed fitting sections 12a. Since a perfect cylindrical shape is formed only of the magnets 12 without using any hole, the magnets 12 can be used effectively to the utmost and the number of the magnets 12 required for obtaining necessary motor characteristics and efficiency can be minimized and, accordingly, the size of the motor 13 can be reduced. Therefore, the characteristics and and efficiency of the motor can be improved without increasing the size of the motor.
