PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a writing device capable of realizing high resolution, high contrast, high reliability, and a high writing speed of a display medium. SOLUTION: This writing device performs writing a display in accordance with image information on a display medium 2 by applying voltage to the display medium 2 varying in the visible condition of the surface by letting the voltage act on the surface. Electrode arrays 3, 4 in the writing device 1 are the ones each to apply voltage to the surface of the display medium 2. These electrode arrays 3, 4 differ in the voltages to be applied to a same point on the surface of the display medium 2.
