The material forming the outer layer (1) is placed in the mold (5,6) together with material for the thermoplastic body and they are joined in the forming operation as the mold closes. The outer layer (1) includes a foamed polyurethane layer on a non-foamed carrier layer with the product of the foam density in g/cm<3> and the weight of the carrier layer in g/m<2> being at least equal to 2. An Independent claim is also included for a corresponding process to control the deformation of the polyurethane layer where the outer layer is applied over part of the surface of the thermoplastic component.
