PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and surely control light quantity by providing a control means for controlling the light quantity of a light source accordance with a prescribed operation which is irreducibly executed when a device is inspected. SOLUTION: A CPU 402 turns on an LED for a prescribed electric charge storage time for one line to read a white reference board and it is determine whether the max. value of the output waveform of an image sensor is larger than a setting level. If the value is larger, a LED turning-on time is shortened by prescribed time to read the white reference board and it is determined whether the max. value of the output waveform of the image sensor became smaller than the setting level. As a result, unless the value becomes smaller than the setting level, the LED turn-on time is shortened for the prescribed time again to read the whiter reference board. In the meantime, when the value of the output waveform of the image sensor becomes smaller than the setting value, the shortened LED turning-on time is adopted as dimmer data (light amount data) and set and stored in RAM 404, so that the turn-on time is displayed.
